Q. Can I run a system from my tap? A. The most recent water board regulations categorise different types of irrigation systems dependent on the risk of contamination of the mains water supply within a domestic garden. It is permitted to operate mini sprinklers and drip-line/porous/leaky pipe direct from a tap with an appropriate backflow device. With underground irrigation systems, such as pop up sprinklers an RPZ (reduce pressure zone) valve or, more commonly installed, a storage tank and booster pump is required to comply with regulations. Q. Why do I have to install a pump and tank? A. When installing sub surface equipment such as pop-up sprinklers, the pump and tank prevents cross contamination. The pump is also necessary to provide the system with the required water pressure and flow for optimum efficiency. Q. What is the benefit of automatic control? A. Automatic control allows irrigation at night when evaporation losses are lowest and pressure highest and most consistant. This provides strict control over the amount of water used and therefore minimises water wastage and promotes water conservation Installing a automated watering system relieves you from the chore of watering when you are at home or away and it also ensures your garden gets the right amount of water at the right time with Perfect results. Q. How can I prevent my system operating if it is raining? A. Installing a rain sensor allows automatic shutdown during rainy weather. Once the weather improves, the system automatically reactivates. Q. Do I require a mains power supply to have an automatic controller for my watering system? A. Our irrigation systems can be designed to operate with both mains power or a battery operated controller. Q. Why is it important for irrigation systems to be divided into zones? A. Multiple zones will give you maximum flexibility to irrigate different amounts of water for different areas. Q. How long should I use my garden irrigation system for? A. All gardens have different requirements according to plant variety, soil conditions and garden location. Watermatic ensure our automated irrigation systems deliver the irrigation needs of all your specified garden areas, you do not have to worry. Q. Will an automatic irrigation watering system use more water? A. We design the most economical and efficient water irrigation systems for your garden. Installing computerised irrigation systems is a responsible and intelligent way to use water. Every part of your garden will receive the right amount of water in the right place at the right time. No wastage. Q. How far apart will my sprinklers need to be placed? A. Sprinklers generally have to overlap. Watermatic install the correct amount of sprinklers for proper coverage. Q. I live in a hard water area. Will this affect my system? A. No. If there are special circumstances, extra measures can be taken. Q. Do I have to take a service contract and how much will it cost? A. Watermatic recommend you taking our service contract in order to keep the system in prime working order. It is also advisable as to minimise maintenance costs by preventing it from freezing up in winter. Costs available on request. Q. I wish to have a comprehensive system designed and installed, for my large garden. What do I do next? A. Please call us. We will then provide you with a free estimate and design. We will go through all aspects of irrigation with you. Q. What guarantees are provided on the irrigation system and equipment? A. The irrigation systems will be fully guaranteed for 1 year for labour and materials from date of installation completion. Q. Can my irrigation system be extended at later date? A. Whether your water irrigation system is partly installed or complete, it can be extended at any time. Q. Will the garden irrigation equipment be visible? A. Our engineers will make sure that all equipment installed will be in the most inconspicuous way and as invisible as possible. All reinstatement work is of the highest standard. Q. Can I fertilize through my automatic watering system? A. A fertigation unit can be installed as part of a new system. It can also be added onto to an existing system. This enables you to inject fertiliser to your garden through the irrigation system. Q. I wish to install a drip irrigation system for my pots and hanging baskets but the pressure fluctuates badly. What can I do? A. Option 1 will be to install a boosting pump and tank unit. Option 2 will be to split the irrigated areas to more zones by installing a multi zone controller and solenoid valves. Q. How long will my irrigation system last? A. For customers that look after their systems year after year using our ongoing service maintenance plan, can expect the system to last up to 20 years or more. Q. How much maintenance is required with a irrigation system? A. Usually our bi-annual maintenance visits are adequate.
